Sulabh International Institute of Technical Research and Training (SIITRAT) established in 1984 as a technical wing of Sulabh International Social Service Organisation and registered in 1993, has been renamed as Sulabh International Academy of Environmental Sanitation and Public Health (SIAESPH) in 2005 for further expansion of sanitation technologies and their dissemination at national and international levels. In the course of last two decades the institute has carried out several important studies on social issues of scavengers’ rehabilitation, their skill development etc. Significant research and consultancy has been undertaken on sustainable technologies like biogas plants, waste water treatment through duckweed, materials and designs of pan and trap of toilet, waste water disposal and treatment, solid waste management, bio-medical waste management etc. Academy has a well-equipped laboratory with testing facilities and also for undertaking research and development.
The outcome of Academy’s research and designing capabilities are tested and validated on ground realities and propagated for the community use through capacity building and training. Accordingly, the Academy has a much larger mandate of acting as an international centre of holistic learning and education on all issues related to promotion of sanitation. The objective is to treat sanitation as a major field of education and study, revitalizing through training programmes and professional studies involving highly qualified sanitation experts, engineers, health professionals, social scientists, ecologists and scholars from all other related fields. The Academy aims at bringing sanitation into a sharp focus of academic activities and research nationally, regionally and globally.
